Hey have a coolant leak of the driver side of motor around dis. area. Its hard to tell exactly what it is. Its above the lower rad. hose where it meets the metal tube, looks like its leaking down onto it. heres the thing, when it does leak bad enough to find im nowhere near my truck. other times i just smell it and cant find it. some days I will check the level and it will be fine just a little low. Next morning its a lot gone. No coolant in the oil, no loss of compression, no knocks etc......with a newborn at home and working 60 a week and school its hard to geet around to, any help would be great. I can see a metal tube that looks to lead to the timing cover area.........HELP hahaha

 

One of the best investments for diagnosing leaks is a TracerLine kit. It kindof removes all doubt.

hey kyyote, there is another coolant hose that runs from the timing cover to that metal hose you mentioned. The coolant exits the bottom of the radiator, flows through the lower rad hose, into that metal tube, and then into the other hose that leads to the timing cover (water pump inlet side).

The other day I had a leak develop at the joint of that hose with the timing cover. The spot is basically right above the alternator. It dripped all over the alternator and onto the lower rad hose so it looked like IT was leaking. I found that removing the alt belt and swinging the atl out of the way gave me plenty of room to reseal it. Clean the mating surfaces, apply a little Permatex #2 onto the male side (in this case the timing cover tube), wait 5 minutes for it to tackify, then slide on the hose and tighten the hose clamp!
