e-locker questions

Howdy! I just picked up a E-locker out of a TRD tacoma for a very awesome price, and I had a few questions as in how I should go about installing it into my pickup, its a 1987 turbo pickup and it has 4.10 gears. How many things need to be modified in order to get the locker to work? I didn't get and wires or relays with the locker so I was wondering if I could just use any old switch that I have laying around. Any info on this would be awesome, thanks dudes!!

I just have the locking mechanism itself and the actuator thing that's on the outside, I got it all for 150 bucks so I can't complain

It didn't come with the gears, I was just going to reuse the ones that are already in my truck if that's at all possible

I haven't been inside an e-locker myself, but there is probably a part of the carrier that the gears attach to that slides to lock the diff together. Without that I don't think you can do the whole thing, but at least you don't have to look for one with the actuator motor included, which will reduce the price of the differential.

best bet is to buy gears that are made for the elocker and the setup elocker kit.

well i went back to where i got the locker and did some talking and i ended up with an entire TRD e-locker rear end for 200+tax, which isnt bad at all, they also refunded my 150 so really wasnt bad in the least, can i just replace my rear end with this one and run the wires to a switch in my dash? will that make it work all fine and dandy?

Yeah, I'm not paying 75 dollars for some wires and zip ties, I'll rig it up wire wise myself, I was just wanting to know if the rear end swap would be a bolt up swap or would I need to change some random things around.

just off the top of my head, the axle is wider so i dont know if the spring or shock mounts will be in the right spot. the brake hose connects on the opposite side of the 3rd, and the e-brake setup is totally different. now other then those things it might bolt right on.

here is a thought. correct me if im wrong (i probably am) could i just splice the green and green and red wires that go to the electric motor that locks and unlocks the locker into say...a window switch so when you put the "window" up it will activate the motor and lock the locker and when you stop pressing the switch it stops the motor but leaves the locker in the locked position, and when you put the "window" down it unlocks the locker? and i could hook the blue and yellow wire from the 2 pin connector to a light on my dash so i know when the locker is fully locked so i can know when to let go of the switch and vise versa. would this work or would i just break stuff?

ok, im feeling very lonely here. BUT i think i might have gotten somewhere, if i use a DPDT relay i should be able to get the electric motor to run forward and in reverse, im just stuck on wondering how i would attach a switch into this to make the circuit complete. Any ideas????? I would like to intergrate the window switch into this as well, but my wiring skills are limited.

You need the 3rd, member and gears inorder to use it. You wont be able to adapt your current gears or third member for the locking mechanism
