Coolant Drain and Fill

Coolant Drain and Fill
Hi all,
The service manual for the 3VZE (I have a 95 4Runner) has a really simple procedure that just says to drain the coolant from various points and then refill. At the same time I've read so many different accounts of people doing full flushes by using distilled water and running the engine, draining from the radiator hose, burping air, etc.
Is there a definitive procedure that I should use if I want to drain the system and fill with fresh coolant? Are there any gotchas I should look out for? Is it worth just draining from the one plug on the radiator and not the block itself? I have no reason to believe there's a problem but I just got the truck and I don't know when the last time it was fully flushed so I'd like to be thorough
Thanks

If you can, it works best if you can park the truck "nose high". That way the water drains better.
Gravity: it not just a good idea, it's the LAW!
Also, when you fill it, it permits "burping" of the cooling system better. All the air will flow up to the filler neck and out. Just make sure to run it until the thermostat opens. Also, make sure you set the heat on the environmental control panel full hot. There will be air in the interior heater cores you need to bleed off.
Run it for about 20 min after it warms up. With the filler cap loosely on the filler neck. Once that's done, let it cool way off, and check the fluid level in the radiator, and the recovery tank, both.
After you drive it a ways, up and down hills if possible, check the fluid levels again. After all that, done!
Good luck!
