As others have said, real pita to do the conversion. 2 easiest ways:
1. Sell your truck and buy a 4x4
2. Buy rusted out body 4x4 and swap bodies..

Yeah..swap bodies and motors, I say. Then you could spend more time on modification to the stock 4x4. Unless you WANT to do it the hard way.

Okay, so swapping my body is defintaley the way to go. My only remorse is throwing away a perfectly good 2wd frame/suspension/axles/wheels/etc.

Except that none of that is compatible with 4wd anyway.

or why not keep your 2wd and buy a beat up 4x4 that needs lots of work, and build that up. Then you have a nice Daily with great mileage, and a 4x4 for when it snows, and for wheelin. Your 2wd is good for getting parts while your 4x is in process.

I recently read a 2wd to 4wd conversion. He had to cut the front IFS off of the frame and weld on 4x4 IFS. It was not so simple as just swapping and bolting parts from one to the other.

The article is over on pirate4x4.com in the toyota section under Toyota Truck and 4Runner Talk http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=496869
