Convert Tailgate to Storage

Ray, I came up with this little bracket that flips the cable 90 degrees so it is now an up down motion. I grabbed a tent stake to use as the pushrod, fits nicely into the original handle. Now I just need to make an identical bracket for other side and come up with a linkage between the two cables that the pushrod can push.

Made the second bracket identical to the first. Also cut a flat piece of aluminum to capture ends of the cables and have the pushrod push on. Here is shot of the two brackets, not quite done with the whole thing, but it's just about Superbowl time so that's it for today.

Any update on this? I'm in the process of doing the same thing and stumbled across your thread. My initial thought was to cut off the mechanism for connecting the pull cables to the latch and figure a way to attach it. Probably use plastic sheet to make the cover and doors.

I kinda jumped over to my build thread, very sorry about that. I finished up the mechanism and it works. Basic idea is to make 2 u shaped brackets to capture ends of the cables and to use a heavy tent peg as the push rod from handle to activate.
