considering a cross country trip in my 94 4x4 pickup!

howdy folks,

new to this forum but wanted to ask some advice and hear some opinions. Im considering driving my 94 toyota pickup 4x4 from my home in Joshua Tree, CA to Arkansas, and back with a few long detours on the return trip.
truck has 136k miles on it, runs great and doesnt give me much trouble aside from burning thru oil faster than a new truck does.

any tips? should I not do this? if I do, parts i should bring along incase of break downs? I am mechanically inclined and am able to diagnose most mechanical issues and repair them.

really any advice or suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. thanks!

Traveling in the US, you should be able to source any parts you might need for your truck immediately, or overnight, worst case.

Take a selection of common tools.

If your truck is well maintained, you will likely have little trouble Go for it!!

Yeah, just do it! It's only about 4000 miles round trip, which most people will do in 3-4 months driving around town without expecting any trouble at all. At 136K miles, it's unlikely anything major on your truck is near the wear-out point, so I don't think you can second guess which parts might break. Just make sure the belts and tires are in good shape, change the oil before you leave, and have fun.

As you can see from my signature, my "new" 4runner has 165K miles, and my "old" one is at 219K. I wouldn't hesitate a second to jump in either one and drive it coast to coast.

Yep, like said above^^^
Just perform all needed maintenance, inspect well, bring set of tools. A socket set, combination wrench set, basic hand tools and you should be able to do repairs short of engine/transmission work. Also a breaker bar for stubborn bolts.
When I did the western half of Route 66 in Dec 2016, that's my tool kit.
Also spare gas. I brought 4 gallons. While driving on a dirt section of Rte 66 I came across a couple in a hybrid whose GPS directed to take the dirt road to get to a gas station. They were low on gas so I shared 2 gallons with them.
Driving east from Lubbock, TX I realized I did not fill up and saw my idiot light come on. My remaining 2 gallons got me to next gas stop.
I planned to take dirt sections with possible snow so I brought along a set of sand traction boards.

Bring a 5 gallon can of gas and a jug or 2 on antifreeze just incase you blow a hose. BTW gorilla tape and bailing wire can help patch a hose to limp it to a store.

Above suggestions are great, go for it. I pulled my 67 Cal Bug from San Diego to DFW with my '81 with no problems, other than blow tire on the Bug.
