Cross Country 2nd gen trip- 1800 miles

Just got to PA (Northeast Pennsylvania) from Houston TX. 1800m trip, 26 hour drive in around 28 hours. Two drivers left at 5 am Sunday and we got here 9 am Monday, non-stop drive for my 2nd gen. The only problems I felt was that the transmission felt a little dif, as it always does after a 24-straight drive, but it feels better after 3 days of cool down. Then the car lost about 2 quarts, which seems understandable after 80-85 mph for 26 straight hours.

No problems at all though, temp was perfect, gas mileage wasn't that bad (17 mpg fully loaded 2 persons 80 mph average). I just need to wash her and change her oil and she's set for the north east winter thats coming. Her covers in the mail, for the snowy nights, and shes in tip top shape. Good thing too cause I still got 2 more hours (to main campus Penn State U) and 2 back, 5 hours to DC, 5 hours back, and then 3 more hours to NY and 3 back before I start school. Thats 46 hours of driving in 1 week, purely insane, not counting the mindless city driving I'll have to do in DC and the normal driving in PA and NY. She's up to it though, gotta love 2nd gens. Represent.

How many miles you got on her??? I will be putting 75 miles a day on here in a couple of weeks going to a from school for I guess 4-4.5 years. I feel that she is up to the challenge. I cant wait to see 200,000 +++ miles on the odometer just for bragging rights for Toyotas. Rock on 2nd gens. Keep em rolling.

Yeah, my 2nd gen loves the freeway. I hate driving in the city but once i get er on the highway, its a very comfortable and reliable vehicle. I drive from the Bay Area up to N. Oregon and sometimes Washington once a month which is about 1100-1500 miles round trip. I have never had a problem(knock on wood). I am so glad I bought my 4Runner. I want to hit that 200,000 miles marker too.

I went from DC to Iowa then to Nebraska...from Nebraska to Kansas then went back to Iowa then home to DC.. Total drive was 3200 miles. On the way back I drove all the way through....22 hours on the road at 70mph.....Truck was flawless! I have been working for over 3 months to get it rdy...average 19mpg (BEST WAS 22mpg...lot of down hill...Had a Roof topper with 175 pounds of luggage.....Dog was in the back..LOL

Here is a list of everything done.

1. Changed HG (Oil in Coolant)
2. Dynomax 21/4 exhaust....New cat converter also
3. Timing belt, water pump, idler pully, tensioner
4. Sparkplugs, cap & Rotor, new wires
5. Fuel filter
6. O2 sensor (Denso)
7. Brakes
8. Changed Tranny fluid, both diffs, trans case
9. Anti freeze flush
10.Cleaned Throttle body
11. Cleaned engine
12. Auto RX (THIS STUFF IS INCREDIBLE)
13. New air filter
14. PCV valve
15. Front end alignment
16. New tires (Tires at 35 psi)
17. All new drive belts
18. Manual locking hubs
19. Lube drive shaft and all other lube points
20. Downey coils (done last year)
21. Bilsteins shocks all around (done last year)
22. New rear bumper...old one rusted....only rust on truck.
23. New Radiator and hoses
24. Replaced 14 feet of Vacuum lines
25. Haden Tranny cooler.
26. Changed fuel return line or what ever it is....cracked and tank would not build pressure..PITA

The over all number one thing that I did was AUTO RX or the tranny cooler.....Auto rx really smoothed out this engine. I could stick my finger in the oil cap under the valve cover and pull out flakes of black build-up....after 600 miles it turned into slush and after cleaning phase it was gone....My tranny used to over heat after awhile....did not overheat once! I checked the fluid while getting gas and it was hardly warm

I have 120k on her now. She's gonna be a 10 mile a day car for the next months until christmas, then I might add 500 more, then a 5 mile a day car for about 2 years, cause I'll be at a different college that I don't need a car in. When I get out she'll probably be my offroad rig.

It'll be easier if you stop a lot. It was probably harder on my runner cause we never stopped, not to sleep and barely to eat. Just to fill up gas. If you give her some time to cool down its probably best, especially for 3k miles.
And yeah, the tranny felt the same after the drive down to Texas as it does now after the drive up. Maybe its just heat build up, or maybe its low on some tranny fluid. I'm taking it for an oil change, alignment, balance and fluid check just in case in a couple of days anyways. GL on the trip.

I start my trip From Bremerton to Sarasota next week. Change all the oils and everything else already. Just waiting to go.

Anyone have any ideas for cross country sightseeing. We are stopping in Yellowstone for 1-2 days after that it's a diagonal swathe through the country.

i know this isnt a 4runner but my father and i drove his 90-93 T100 V6 (i cant remember the year) from baltimore, md to las vegas, nv with 14 5 gallon buckets of paint (massively over loaded) and back with about the same amount of weight in furniture and luggage....a/t light came on once in arizona, we pulled over and let it cool off and then continued...no problems at all...
