Confused about my idler arm
Ok so I didn't pass inspection cause my idler arm is loose? So i looked around here to see what i could find and I was directed to write ups like these.
http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/ar....jsp?id=300937
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/idler/
but they don't look like what I've got...

So I'm confused as to what I should do.
New idler arm on ebay? (but those look like the ones in the write up... not like mine.
Try to rebuild this one anyway?
or am i completely off and this isn't even the idler arm....
Thanks for any help. 1994 sr5 4runner.

that is the idler arm. 5 mins to replace. if you want the correct part go with factory toyota, it costs more. or if you want to probably get the wrong style 3 times but pay less go with a napa or some other aftermarket type. if u go with a/m make sure it matches up with your old 1

An Idler arm is completly unneeded. Just pull it off and tell them your truck came without it.
Ok seriously though you can rebuild that one with new bushings if you want. That will tighten it back up and save you some money.

You can rebuild the OEM ones, but that is aftermarket. I had one of those on my truck when i bought it, and its a part from somewhere, though i have no idea where. It's not rebuildable though, i tried.
You can buy essentailly an OEM one from NAPA, a little cheaper. Either from NAPA or Toyota, you'll be well into the 100's, to 150 to get it replaced.
You can also do a junkyard arm, though that can be a risk all on its own. Personally, i'd buy one from NAPA, get the lifetime warantee one, and go from there. Spend the bucks once, and never again.

So much complication over a danged idler arm!!!
I've gone through a few, so what, the replacements are free! I got mine from Schucks Auto Supply for like $60. I replaced the stock one then bent one and schucks just handed me a new one. lifetime warranty on those units. The OEM was SHOT, I wouldnt drop $150 on a factory idler arm, waste of MONEY!

SummitRacing.com, Moog suspension, Idler arm. Looks like anyway. Go napaonline for OEM. Not too strange, rebuilds(new bushings) common, even with best built AM idlers. Weak unit(Moog) I geuss. Jus' x2 checked, wrong Moog unit, one like yours at rockauto.com, sorry.

idler arm brace
Am I correct that the Downey brace ONLY fits on the OEM style arm?
(I never realized that the aftermarket idler arms were different in shape/configuration than the Toyota OEM ones)
Does anyone here have a brace on an aftermarker idler arm?

Search this site for info on Total Chaos Idler, or LCEngineering.com.

This idler has lasted me at least 100k cause that's how long i've had my 4runner and I got it with 50k on it. So it can't be that bad cause it lasted at least twice as long as the oem did (I'm guessing the original owner didn't know you could rebuild). No offense taken btw. Just stating the facts.
