Complete drivetrain fluid change, please verify

1990 4runner 5sp 3VZE

I've searched but keep finding conflicting info, so just to verify....

1) I can use 75w-90 in the front & rear diffs and tranny & t-case correct?

2) GL4 in tranny/tcase and GL5 in diffs correct?? So no mobil1 for tranny/tcase since its gl5?

3) Capacities are Trans 3.2q, tcase 1.2q, F diff 2q, R diff 2.3q, correct?

4) Do the tranny/t-case transfer fluid between eachother? If so, after draining each can I just fill the tranny? will it fill into the t-case??

Just don't put synthetic in the tranny,if it's a manual.My axles say use GL-5.Syn is too slippery for the synchros to work(gear clash at every shift).I use GL=5 in my T/C no problems.

Just got back from Napa auto, bought 5qt of Red Line MT-90 and 5qt of Red Line 75w90 gl5, hopefully I guessed right

Big ouch for the pocketbook, but the truck will be happy.

how much did that fuild run you i got 143k on stock fuild which cant be good

I too ran into conflicting capacities, so I just bought more than I needed to make sure I had enough. You may need it someday as it turned out I did.
1: I used 75w-90 in all with Amsoil synthetic 500,000 mile.
2: Amsoil was rated for both gl4 and gl5 if I remember right. Can check that.
3: Get more than you need, like 8 to 10 quarts. Turned out I needed extra later and I haven't seen any tcase that didn't leak.

4. No they do not share.

Been running synthetic in all above for awhile and actually made 5spd shift much smoother. I might have a bottle left if you need more info off it and I can find it.

it was a LOT. I know you can get it cheaper online, but after shipping costs I figure it would be the same. They were about $11/qt for the MT-90 and $10.30/qt for the other, so a bit over $110 for syn fluid for tranny/tcase/diffs. Napa was the only place that carries around here, and I wanted to do it tomorrow.

I have run Synthetic Lucus 75-90 in my 2 toyota 5 speeds and it helped with shifting and made them more quiet.

It takes about 3 qts per diff. Don't remember what for the tranny and transfer case (despite the fac that I only did them a month ago). I did post all the fluid capacities out of the owner's manual a while ago...

I just did the driveline fluid swap about 6 monthes ago.

Here is what I did.

I put Amsoil Manual transmission and transaxle fluid 75w90 (GL4) in my Manual transmission.

And I put Amsoil Long life (says 500,000 mile on the front with a blue label) 75w90 Synthetic Gear oil in my front & rear diffs, and my transfer case (GL5). Haven't had any problems. I thought about going with Amsoil's "Severe Gear" gear lubes for my diffs & transfer case but I figure I didn't do any heavy duty towing so it wasn't worth the trouble to have it special ordered in when they had this stuff on the shelf.

The transmission shifts great. The GL4 is a little less slippery so it works with the transmission and it has excellent cold weather shifting and obviously works well when warm. I also noticed if you put your hand near the centre console on the sides of the carpet near the shifter that on long highway drives it doesn't get as hot (you can feel a bit of heat through the carpet from the transmission).

I will say this though - the gears in my transmission, transfer case, & diffs are very well worn in. When they drained out the stock Toyota fluids out of all of these after what would be around 25,000 miles or so they were still clear and the normal colour. They have worn in quite well. The stock Toyota stock non synthetic fluid stuff is also very good as well. If I wasn't running synthetic I would run the stock fluid. Also, according to the tech who did my fluid change, he said the numbers listed in your owners manual for fluids are pretty much bang on and I had the left over fluids I thought I would after tallying it all up.

It's tough to get the manual transmission and transaxle fluid - I had to special order it in, but do it, it's worth it.

I am a big fan of Amsoil just because I've heard nothing but good things, and I also sent them an email asking them some questions and the response I got was nothing short of fantastic.
