So truck will not start very well when cold. i just got this truck. So It will crank and thenpop like it is going to start, if I hit the gas in the right way it will fire but not allways. So I usually will try it if it does not fire i will spray eather in the manafold and it fires right up.
I did check the cold start injector, pulled it out and cleaned the crap out of it, did not change anything, so I tryed to start it with the injector out to see if any fuel came out and none did.
So what next? It is a 1988 22re 5 speed

Get the number off the part and hit the wrecking yards or post on the forum in the parts wanted section.They have different numbers for different years.

 

Having same issue on my 3.0. I just replaced the ks wire and while disassembling found the sensors on the water bypass disconnected. I have 3 sensors on the bypass. I need to confirm that the far right, black plug goes to the fuel injector wire harness for the cold start injector;
the center one is broken and needs to be replaced: I believe this is the ECT sensor that plugs into the 2 pin grey connector from the wire harness on the driverside wire harness?
There is a single blade grey connector on the far left(driverside) that is for the temp gauge?

There are 3 different guys that sell used Toyota parts on eBay. Make sure that you have the correct part number for any parts before you make the purchase. I've bought parts from all 3 of them without a single problem.

Hey I have a similar starting issue, actually it's the opposite. In the morning when it is below freezing my 91 3vze starts right up and sounds good. once it's been sitting in the sun all day like at work or school it has a hard time starting. the hotter the outside temp, the harder it is to start. it cranks and cranks and cranks, it's turning over fine but will not catch. it's getting fuel and spark. . . it did not start until the weather changed so i was thinking maybe the cld start injector (i read that those get stuck open?) i am also thinking the ECT sensor or maybe the cable running from the battery to the starter. I will be testing all of these this coming friday so any tips or advice would be much appreciated. -Stu

 

I'd look at the AFM as well. If you've got cranking, fuel and spark it sounds like air is the only other variable. Be sure to check out all of the obvious stuff too -- cap, rotor, wires, plugs while you're at it.

 

yea the pick up coil, ignitor and cap all check out. . . new plugs, wires need to be changed soon. . . everything that i think of i have to take the outside temp into consideration.
