Were it not on a highway, I would normally do just that.......put it in 4lo, that is.....hubs unlocked. However, you have to come to a complete stop to shift in and out of 4lo. Which means potentially annoying traffic even further.....hehehe.<<<<devilish grin>>>> Plus, no real shoulder to pull off and shift back into 2hi.

can you not shift on the fly? when i am towing in a straight line i often start in 4lo and work my from 1st through 4th and grab 4hi and 2nd gear, nail it, while pulling second i throw the transfer case selector into 2hi and when i hit the clutch to put it into 3rd, i clicks into 2hi. i like shifting hahaha

Did you get new shocks for either truck?

 

I did for the pickup but haven't for the 4runner yet.

No that's my certified welder friend. He gets pissed when I pay for welding or order any bumpers/sliders/plates since he will build them for free. My next rig will be all Glenn (the welder) customs.

 

Nope. I don't do any crazy rock crawling so I bought OEM replacement shocks and added shims to the front ones on the truck. I'll probably get the 2" longer ones from Wabfab if the ones on the runner ever die. So far I don't really need new ones so I'll wait.

edit: If you do plan on doing a bunch of flexing then you will need longer shocks. I just go camping now days so a longer shock may or may not help me. I'll end up buying from the Wabbit just because he supports us Yota nuts and makes a great product.

cool! that is a very interesting mod? was just gonna put an overload or add aleaf but my friend said dont do it, you'll hate the ride.

 

I did this last night on my 94, similar to a lot of people I considered the add a leaf but the cheapness of adding the coil springs was the way to go. My rubber bumpers on the bottom were long gone so I welded a 1 1/2 in stub to fit the spring over onto the bumper plate and cut the top bump stop off leaving approx 1 1/2 inches as a spring cup. A few whacks with a bfh widened it enough to fit the spring in. It rides much better now. Now I need to get the front end a little softer as well.

 

Sounds like you need the BJ spacers to match the front to the rear. I did the zuk mod, BJ spacers and new shocks after reading how much Ricky liked the ride of his. Well folks, he ain't lying. My wife was surprised/impressed with how much nicer it rides.

Well, I figured I would give you yet another reason to post up pics of your rig. I wanted to be helpful and try to fulfill you RB4R narcissism.

 

I probably should post up some pictures... I do have some new ones but they are "lame" as far as rock crawlers go. And yes Big Blue and I have the monopoly on RB4R's. I wonder if anyone else has one............. I might need to start a club. Hey! You can paint yours and be number 3!!!!!

On a side note have you loaded the runner down with a lot of camping gear to check the ride of those coils? I know I can fill mine up and not even feel the weight other than a loss in hill climbing on the highway. I also need to point out that I removed the anti sway bar in the front end and the coils keep the body from rolling in a fast "holy crap that's a wreck in front of me!!" situation. Overall I'd say the Zuk mod is the best one I've done so far.
