Code Readers
I haven't been able to find any specific threads for this .... What brand/make of Code Reader is best for '86 - '95 trucks and 4runners?? By Code Reader I mean one that the average backyard wannabe mechanic ( like me ) can use.

Can you run a paper clip?
....That's all you need. A "jumper wire" if you bothered to read an FSM...

Sounds like my kinda tool!!! Cheap and easily available but I'm a wannabe .... not exactly a qualified "Paper Clip Operator" I grew up with carbs and linkages as opposed EFI and ECU's and yes, I have bothered to read the FSM's for my trucks, both of them in fact. Maybe I'm wrong here but it seems to me that being able to decipher the codes generated when the "Check Engine" light comes on is the quickest way to find the prob and make the fix. Happy to be educated on this if I'm in error!!

In the engine bay there is a box labeled diagnostics. Take your paper clip and jump the E1 and TE1 terminals. Go turn your ignition on and watch the flashes of the CEL. Ex. two flashes..pause..five flashes would be a code 25. The smaller codes will be first followed by the larger numbered codes.

Thanks Jason, I guess all is well as sensors go. Truck still has problem with power loss, have to give a lot of throttle to keep it going. 1994 4x4 with 3.0L V-6. Thanks for your reply.
