Code 25 questions

My check engine light is on in my 93 4runner 3.0

I noticed that at idle the engine gets a little rough. I've been told that if the injectors get dirty enough, they can misfire at idle but seem to run fine with some throttle and also turn the check engine light on.

SO... if this is true... it could be why I'm running lean and in theory if I picked up some good injector cleaner I could fix it.

I don't really know what I'm talking about... does this sound possible?

Makes sense. But it could also be a lot of other things. You just have to work through them until you find it.

I'm out of other ideas... so can someone recommend a good fuel injector cleaner?
also, someone said running better gas would help... what's really better?

Correct, code 25 means lean. On 3.0's, usually injectors. But dont overlook air leaks in intake or dead O2 sensor

i had an air leak in the intake... but that's fixed
someone said to replace the plugs and wires... done
i've heard about the o2 senser, but that's a bit of money so i was going to try to clean it first

I've never heard of dirty injectors being the problem... but this sounds like it could be it. the only time that the check engine light went off on it's own was after a small bottle of fuel injector cleaner, but that only lasted for a tank of gas. how often can I run injector cleaner?

Toss in some HIGH OCTANE 101+ booster w/ 91 octane (Chevron?) gas when you have a empty tank. You can do this every other tank it see what happens. I blew a hole in the air intake hose and sucked up a bunch of dirt and the injectors suffered. I did the 101+ thing a few tanks and the injectors are spitting fine!

I found some "maximum 104 octane boost" I'm not going to blow up my engine am I? I didn't see anything weaker and this is what the kid suggested... but i think he was making it up as he went.

everything else said it was for "tuners" or "not street legal"
this stuff is "for off road use only"

http://www.goldeagle.com/104plus/products.htm
it's the maximum stuff

thanks

That has some information on what a code 25 could be. I'm currently having the same problem on my 91 3.0 I'd try injector cleaner first. If you have a volt meter you can check your oxygen censor, its pretty easy. I just checked mine and it was ok, so I'm gonna try injector cleaner and pull them out if that doesn't work. Hope that helps and let us know how it goes.

Dang, it is so funny that after I replaced my timing belt and other stuff. Now my check engine light is on and this is the first time I have seen it to come on since I bought it brand new in 1994. So, how do you check the oxygen sensor? I do not want to buy it yet if there is any way to check it out and do some troubleshooting. My distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires are still the same one since new, maybe it is time to replace them and so is the fuel filter. I have Seafoam in the garage waiting to be poured on next fill up.
