My truck is near impossible to shift.

Friday after running down the interstate I get on the off ramp and stop at a light and the truck refuses to go into gear (1st, 2nd, 3rd......any of them). It doesn't grind the gears just slap refuses to go. Is SUPER hard to get in and takes everything I've got to get it past the hard spot. The only gear that grinds is reverse.

Got it back home and adjusted to clutch pedal out some to see if that would do anything. It did........for about a day and then 1st became impossible again and don't even think about reverse. I can shut the truck off and everything is fine, put it in gear and everything is fine.........

Clutch? Or something else.... When in gear the clutch is releasing at the bottom 1/4 of the pedal so that is my main reason for thinking clutch but all the foward gears are not grinding..........

Ideas, suggestions and advice would be great!!

Recommended parts would be great also.

 

How's the clutch fluid level?

have the same problem here, only brand new clutch, flywheel and a rebuilt motor. rev also grinds and hard to get into all gears.

 

It could be the fluid in the tranny it self. If you put GL5 in, it could be the problem, its too slippery. Only use GL4 in the tranny.

 

as for mine, same fluid that was in there now is the same fluid before the clutch change.

 

I haven't done anything with the tranny since I got it about 4K miles ago.........so I don't think it is that

 

I'm curious to see what this is since i got a new clutch in mine doing the same thing as your old clutch.

 

If fluid is full.

Perhaps your clutch pedal bracket is cracked/busted and not transferring the clutch release. Noted issue as defined in numerous threads.

Perhaps your slave cylinder has gone out.

 

x2 on the clutch pedal bracket; you'll need to get under the dash & watch it while someome depresses the clutch to see it under load.

Could explain the 'hard spot'.

Look up under the dashboard and check where the pedal attaches to the firewall.

Got it unbolted last night and fought with it for 20 minutes trying to get it out but never could get the right angle to get the darn thing out!!! Any tips?

Question: Can that bracket be cut between the brake side and the clutch side to help when getting it back in? I don't see why it could because structurally is doesn't look like it would affect it.

 

Its already broke and now you want to cut it and weaken the structural integrity further?

Take other stuff out of the way and remove it. Don't cut it.

I don't see where the center section has a darn thing to do with its structural integrity. The bolts and pressure points on either side of this area. If you can explain I'd be greatful.......

BTW - this thing is a BI**H to get out!! Bolts were easy.........rest is a PIA!!

 

Got it back together last night and it seems like everything is good to go. Feels like the clutch has a small area.........like maybe it is burnt up a little. Gonna ride her like she is for awhile and see what happens.
