I bought my truck in the beginning of July. The previous owner, the brother of my friend, says he replaced the clutch about a year and a half ago. The truck has 230k miles on it.

My parking brake broke recently, and as a substitute I've been leaving the truck in gear when parking to keep it from rolling away. I tried to back it into the driveway just now to work on the back and when I went to leave it in gear to "park" it it kept slipping and lurching forward. It had no problem backing into the driveway. Lots of power and grip there. But what's the deal with it staying in gear and rolling downhill?

 

probably on to steep of an incline! or low compression lol.. its not your clutch slipping it you motor rolling over.. put it in low range, that should keep it from rolling.

 

X2. The "lurching" is a dead give away. Each "lurch" is another compression stroke. Low range will help, but it is never a guarantee. Get the parking brake fixed or stop parking on inclines.

 

also, if you're facing down the driveway, put it in 1st, don't leave it in reverse.

 

Why not, is it bad for the motor to rotate backwards?

 

Low range + 1st or reverse + wheel against curb.

 

Ah, I should try the low range. Probably won't need to use it since I decided to just park in the street (where I always park anyway). I just wanted to park in the driveway to make it easier to go back and fourth getting tools and such.
