Clutch pushed in idle goes up

I recently just bought my first Yota. Its a 1989 3.0 v6 reg cab 5 speed with over 200,000 miles. I got it for $1,500 because he said the clutch was acting up. Here is what it is doing, it runs great but when you stop and have the clutch pushed in the idle goes up . Is this a vacuum leak possibly? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

a sounds like a vacuum leak

to test the clutch put it in 4th going like 15mph and hit the gas hard, if it revs up and you dont move forward as quick as it revs then the clutch is slipping

also stop on a completely flat surface, push the clutch it and put it in 1st, rev the truck to like 4-5k and see if the car moves at all, if it does then the clutch isnt fully disengaging

the 3.0 isn't the most desirable, but, the rest of that vehicle is solid

congrats on the purchase; any pics of the ride?

Hey man its all good, and were here to help each other. The 3.0 isn`t the best motor, its known for blowing head gaskets, but if you keep up on the maintenance especially the cooling system it will last you a long time. Another thing to consider is adding headers because the exhaust cross over puts a lot of heat into engine the way its set up stock.

You can put an air intake on it, but most people do is remove the crappy intake pipe between the AFM and throttle body and replace it with a piece of pipe or something that makes a nice smooth bend between the two.

Or you can convert it to 3.4...

Have you check yet to see if the dealer has done the head gaskets?

The rear crossover pipe sucks, so I'd get a set of headers.

3.Slow's have 4cylinder power and get V8 mileage...

wasn't there a clutch or idling problem around here somewhere?

lol nice greatskiiiier (I got all the i's right?)

but yeah you do have to take some people on here with a grain of salt. Especially ones that wheel their rigs hard and have been around toyota's along time. Afterall the jeep guys always give us crap as well. Do yourslef a favor and check out the pirate4x4 forums and you will see what I mean. I consider those guys (no offense yotatech members) to be the top tier of toyota wheelers. And if half the questions that are asked here especially multiple times, sometimes by the same people were asked over there on that forum well.... some of those guys are just point blank rude. But I feel alot of them earned it as well.

IMHO CAI's or upgraded intakes on a truck are overrated unless it's a sport truck.

would be much better to slap a header on the 3.0's and alleviate alot of the exhaust heat that plagues the headgaskets on those.

congrats on the buy dude. there is nothing wrong with the 3.0L except that i can blow HG's for no reason and it doesnt make enough power for the mpg. that being said as long as you keep on top of it and never let that heat gauge get close the the hot part you should enjoy the little guy. welcome to yt!

oyah and i dont see why you got annoyed at tried4x2signN? didnt really say anything directly at you, its just funny when somebody asks that question lol. you will understand the longer you are on this forum.

The mpg isn't going to matter, its my play truck. Im not going to be driving it 20 miles a day, just some fun on the weekends. Head gaskets suck but its part of it, it will be fine for what im using it for.

oyah well for that there is no worry but for people who DD them its annoying lol. If you swaped to a 3.4L (5vzfe) you would get way more power and better mpg, plus they are far more reliable to the 3vze. just some food for thought im going to be doing the swap soon too

the cost of the swap will cost about the same as just selling your truck and buying a truck with the 3.4 stock, just food for thought
