I said screw it and went and got a new one at the dealer. Its a shame we have to pay money to replace a defectively designed part.

Came out in about 1 hour when back in the truck in less than 1 hour.

i just found myself with the same problem, but i have a few questions.
1) I tried taking the bracket out myself, but i could not maneuver it out, even after a took the brake pedal off. whats the trick and what do you have to do to the steering shaft to slide it out?
2) i also found that the bracket also has 2 bolt that bolt up from the top of both the brake and clutch pedal hinges into the body. The one above my clutch broke the nut and a chunk of metal right out. did anybody have the same problem and what did you do about it?

i took it to my 'mechanic' after i couldn't get it out myself, and he charged me $120 just the stitch weld it back together, no gussets or anything, he didn't even take it out. to take it out he said would be a 10 hour job because he would have to take the entire dash apart. wtf? time to find a new mechanic i guess if you guys say it takes you less than 2 hours.
