Clutch on 91 2wd question...
Hello
Just a quick question before i start this clutch job, looks as though in a 2wd 91 22re toyota pick up the transmission crossmember does not come out and looks like, just at a glance, the tail of the trans will not fit down in front of the crossmember even with mount removed to drop it? OR is there enough room at the bellhousing to pull trans back and then the front down? Or am i just seeing things? first time on a 2wd...
thanks

Yeah, you're seeing things. The crossmember can be dropped, and should be. Depending on things, you may even want to consider dropping the carrier bearing support as well (if equipped).

I took a better look and the crossmember does not unbolt. it is factory welded to the frame and houses the torsion bars, keep in mind this is a 2wd. Just looks like the crossmember doesnt have enough room to drop back of the the trans...

Well i looked here and looks like the rear trans mount and a bracket that attaches onto the cross member only comes off, must still squeeze by it then... here is a manual you can download from this website..my help some people.
http://www.ebooksquad.com/2009/02/22...ce-manual.html
And i found this...
Question
I'm trying to replace the clutch on my 90 toyota pickup, 2wd and i've gotten the transmission maybe 3 inches away from the engine, but now its stuck. the clutch housing keeps running into the walls and i dont want to lower it for fear of bending something, am i meant to separate the clutch housing from the shift lever housing? How do i get it out? HELP!?
Answer
Hello
I'm trying to remember without looking at a manual, I think on this one the crossmember is not removeable so I'll give you instructions based on that assumption if it's different let me know.
tp get the trans out you have to remove the shift tower completely by removing the shift boot and taking it out through the opening, you also need to remove the rear transmission mount, this will give enough room to slide the transmission back and then by tilting the front of it down past the rear of the engine, you may have to use some prybars, it's a tight fit, let me know if this works.

Suppose it might be easier to just pull the engine you got more time in disconnecting all the wiring but I also didn't have to fight the tranny getting it out at least that's how the chiltons manual said to do it, it was my first engine pull and not that big a deal more of a pain to get all the wiring working right as in my case I went and paint almost everything!
