Clicking noise 93 4runner SR5 4WD

Today i went offroading on some pretty basic trails, nothing too much. I did get stuck in some soft dirt. But after rocking it back in forth between first and reverse i was able to get out. I stopped and switched between high and low to get myself over a berm, and when i went to put into 2wd to go home, i got a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the front of the vehicle. Everything seems to still be intact under the vehicle and in the engine bay. Anyone have an idea what i may be experiencing?

From: Columbia River Gorge, Oregon...east side
Clicking as in metallic? If so, check the CV axle.

Alright so i got under my truck and on the passanger side CV joint, the boot is missing and i can pull the shaft almost all the way out on the wheel side. Should is be spinning freely and should it be able to pull out?

should only spin freely if the hub is unlocked. if the boot got ripped off and all the grease came out you should replace it anyways. its been a while since ive done an ifs truck but I think the cv is bolted on twards the 3rd and has a clip in the hub so you probably shouldn't be able to move it correct me if im wrong. it might wiggle a little bit but you shouldn't be able to just pull and it moves an inch or whatever
