Click in front end while in 4wd

So first off i searched for this problem and it seemed nobody else had something that was exactly what i have going on.

The problem I'm having is when I'm in 4wd there is a clicking noise coming from the front end. The noise is only heard while accelerating or decelerating. if I'm on flat ground just cruising there is no click. If i have the tcase in 2wd and the hubs locked there is no click but if it is in 4wd there is a click with the hubs locked or unlocked

Just a guess someone's messing with you and put zip ties on your front drive shaft

So no noise when the hubs are unlocked and in 2wd, but there is when locked and in 4wd?

Have you tried 4wd with hubs unlocked?

I would think that if you try that and there is no noise, then the hubs might need to be rebuilt.

The constant-velocity joint on your front driveshaft could be worn, have you tried greasing it to see if the sound changes or goes away?

Mines the same except for it clicks all the time. Pretty sure the wheel bearings are worn out and the hubs could use rebuilding or just dissembling and cleaning. If you constantly wheel through water or looks like snow in your pics then the bearings may be dried out from moisture getting in them. Nice looking pick em up btw!

greased the front driv shaft cv joint and i still have the click. i guess the next thing will be to grease the hubs. i dont think that will be the problem since they are fairly new super winch hubs

Only clicking when accel or decel in 4WD? I would say check the front differential, maybe a pinion bearing or bushing? Still haven't located mine yet

Its your cv joints... dont matter if your hubs are locked or not, when in 4WD the front shafts are gonna spin.

so i finally got some time. after working 88 hours a week for a year some time off is quite nice and it also means more time for wheeling

But i also got some time to figure out what this sound was. It turns out i blew up my true trac lsd in the front. So now im trying to decide if i should replace or just move along with the sas a little sooner than i had planned.

That's what I'm thinking too. So now the hunt begins for an 85 axle!
