cleaning wheel bearings

Hello everyone. Ok I'm finally going to repack the bearings on my truck. I was just wondering what you do to clean the bearings before actually repacking them. Is just wiping off the old grease with a rag possible, or do you need to spray a special cleaner on the bearings before wiping off the old grease? Thanks for the help.

I would figure that brake parts cleaner would be a good agent to use to clean all of the old grease out.

yeah, brake cleaner, or kero works well for cleaning up gunky greasy stuff. blow it dry, or let it dry before repacking. Personally i'd probably buy new ones unless theyre relatively new. Theyre not too expensive, and you might as well replace em while you're in there getting your hands all greasy
