So on my 'new' '93 P/U, my cigarette lighter plug did that thing they do where the little brown cord secondary fuse thing burns out. I figured this since it went out while I was running an air compressor for awhile and the fuse was fine, with a voltmeter giving me a reading for the plug that goes in the back.

Sooo.... I took a little strand of copper wire and replaced the old brown deal. Now, instead of not working, whenever I plug something into the socket, it will blow the fuse! Hoooray!

Seriously though, what the heck am I supposed to do? I was under the impression that replacing the wire was the way to go, but now it just blows the fuse.

 

get a new one from the junk yard and install it cause i dont know what your talking about

 

its probably shorting out on the body of the lighter. Buy a new one and save yourself more trouble

 

Alright, I'll just pick up a new one and see what happens.

 

You insulated the wire properly right? And also if you have any soldering experience, cut it back as far as possible and solder the wires together to get a good connection to make sure its not blowing the fuse from drawing spurts of power. Also, try to use the same gauge wire that was on there before. Other then that I don't know what to tell you. But make sure its insulated.
