Chinese 4Y motor - anyone every tried?
My 4runner is still out of action after its big water trip.
I got everything back to good except the motor.
Now when it starts, it's blowing smoke (white'ish).
Took it to a mechanic and he said it's burning oil. So, I'm thinking it's rings are out somewhere.
The person who killed it decided it would be a good idea to try clutch/push start it without pulling the plugs are checking for water, so it's probably hurt the rings.
I found a brand new 4Y engine on eBay - $1000, got REALLY excited, but decided to ask the seller where it was made. China.
Worried. Anyone have any experience with Chinese motors?
Local mechanic said I could have more problems with that than with my 360,000KM original motor.

that engine is ˟˟˟˟ing ˟˟˟˟, why would you want it? if money is no object, and i'm assuming you already have the 22re since you're looking for a replacement 4cyl, just do a 3rz swap. buy a totalled donor truck, shouldn't cost any more than 1500 bucks

x2 ^^^ why put a van motor in a truck that your gonna off road?? if your gonna do custom work go with a 3rz. buy the whole truck thats wrecked then scrap what you dont need. several people have done 3rz swaps and are getting mid 20 mpgs and more power then a 22re. take a serious look at it

Ew. Gross. Chinese motor? No. Just rebuild your 22RE, get another 360,000km out of it. And how long did you run it? My brother didn't swamp it, but his land rover slept upside down overnight, thing smoked for a day after, and intermittently after that.

3rz or 5vz swap is what you need instead. Only problem is that a 3rz is a bit hard to find now a days, i got a buddy here that has been looking for one for a while but the junk yards that get a hold of one it already gots a waiting list for it.

i love my 5vz, but if i was going 4 cyl i would have to go 3rz.
heres a good 3rz info thread http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=19275.0

A chinese motor?? Its one thing if its a harbor freight genset. But putting one in your vehicle. No, horrible idea. You ask me, nothing good ever has or will come out of china with the exception of Jackie Chan. And he always drove Japanese cars and trucks.

oh boy someone struck a china nerve with you again like i did in my carb thread.(lmfao)You know i had to say that.I would have to 2nd that though I might buy a carb from china but an engine prob not. I would just rebuild mine beforeI would go the china route.

You can rebuild for well under a grand. If you're gonna swap, I agree with what everyone else will tell you; 3RZ or 5VZ period. China hasn't caught up yet in quality so I would stay the hell away from any Chinese motor.

I heard they last longer if you use a mixture of paper, rice, glue, and sea-weed instead of oil.

Ya and it will be a long time if they ever do. Crapy machine work and the fact that they use cheezy cast metal in place of actual steel.
