That is a common problem on your 2009 pickup with the 6.0 dual supercharged v12.

I don't think you need a code scanner.. You need to learn about the diagnostic port, how to jumper it to display codes.

If your airflow sensor is broken, your fuel pump will likely be dead also... At least for the 22re.

Scanners: Most OBD-I (pre 95) cars can output their codes without a scanner.
OBD-II scanners are good.. And generic to almost everthing.

its 3.0 v6 not the 22r.. yea i would prolly agree with you on the fuel pump.. im not good with the jumper style.. i tried it with a acura and i was tired of it.. if i get this reader... then i can have it around the house so if any of the other problems with the car we can check instead of those shark mechanics

I don't think there is any affordable reader for a 92 truck. A OBDII reader won't help you any.

Engine codes from those little cheap boxes are useless. Sure it will tell you what code it has in it, (SOMETIMES), but you won't have any access to any data stream etc. Every week people stop by my place with a code written down that the local Advance pulled for them and usually it leads me absolutely no where. I have had more than 10 people who had replaced oxygen sensors all around on their vehicle to kill a code when really it was the gas cap! I usually fix them in 5 minutes and charge 5 bucks for getting them a used gas cap at the boneyard. I can't make myself charge them much 'cause I feel so sorry for them for letting Advance rip them off.

But the little kids at Advance are always willing to hook up that box and sell them an o2 sensor. I still have to hook up and diagnose myself. Instead of buying one just go to Advance and let them scan it and sell you a part. Then when it is still running like crap get a real mechanic to look at it or get the books out and diagnose it yourself. It gets easier with practice and if you are only concerned about one model of vehicle it should be quite rewarding.

I have a $2500 initial investment in my Snap On scanner and have been using it for 12 years. Every three years it was a $600 upgrade to stay current, ($2400). Just last month we did a complete update to it for $1500. Now you gotta ask yourself knowing that, would it be worth it to pay a couple of hundred bucks for that little thing.

Oh yeah, that being said, I still never use my scanner on my 92 4 runner. I just jump the terminals.

yea if i had the money i would go that way , but i understand your point,

today i just left to the store the check engine light wasnt shown when started up and then it came on after i hit the gas, power wise still seem the same, o2 sensor was change yr ago gas cap seems to be new but it could be kinda open since it was last week when i put gas and the cel just happen to turn on this week..

should i replace the airflow sensor, cheap one from ebay, since i was playing with the connection and notice the idle drop and turned off and it wouldnt start back up untill i move the connection again .. the truck starts right up i still got the same power.. even though its a 3.0 i can still punch it when the cel is on..

Never a bad diagnostic strategy to swap out parts and see if it makes a difference, if you have them laying around, but I have had to fix a lot of wire connectors on my 92 I guess from vibration the get a little exposed and corroded. The one on my air flow sensor doesn't even have a clip on it I need to find one at the yard and rewire.
