Ummm...
It's 2WD, so SAS'ing it would be absolutely stupid...

because my 2wd is capable of getting more suspension travel and higher speeds out in the desert then a 4x4 with a locker. some of you guys need to understand that there is more to offraoding then crawling up rocks or hittin' the mud hole.

hey i'm all for desert racing, i think its some pretty cool stuff actually.
i'd like to buy a VW bug to make into a dune buggy, but i'm broke lol.

can't the 4WD with 4WD stuff like the diff/CV joints removed make the same travel as a 2WD?

uhmm..actually its easier to SAS a 2wd truck than a 4wd truck (or so i've heard) because you dont have as much stuff to deal with up front

and i've seen alot of 4wd desert race trucks???..sure the pre-runner market is geared more towards 2wd trucks, but 4wd pre-runner's aren't uncommon..

i think the 63" chevies would be your best solution..it will give you the lift you want, it will allow you to carry a heavier load, and it will ride alot smoother on the road

im thinking about ditching my leafs (i got 2 sets of yota leaf packs..wanted to put em together to make kinda a hybrid pack) and going with either 63" chevies..or 56" fords (i think that's how long they are??..lol)

might even go with the fords and the ZUK mod..if i get the 6" bracket lift im tryin to talk the guy into sellin..HAHAHA

I was told the 2WD frame is different in the front than a 4WD, in that it's a different width.

Anyways though, SAS'ing a 2WD, you still need to get a 4WD transmission with xfer case on it, fender flares etc etc.

yes you can but, why rip apart a 4x4 only to make it 2wd? why not start out with a 2wd and build it with the big travel numbers and a lower ride hight for a lower center of gravity to make it less tippy in the corners.

good points.
that makes more sense to me than "it just gets better travel"
cornering, cog, etc etc.

If you want to go cheap, how about free?

Along the lines of "zuk coils"... find osmebody w/ a TJ that has upgraded their coils, get the stock rears.
Just cut the coil down to the hieght you want and pop that bad boy in there. Obviously you want it tall enough that it has to be compressed just a little to go into place.

I ran this type of "lift" for a year and it worked great. Total cost = 1 beer. Well, 2, one for the guy I got them from, 1 for me afterwards ;-)

I should probably say zuk is the one who recommended those specific coils to me...i don't wanna get burned too badly...but i'm tryin to find a cheap way to lift my 2wd also. mine's so stinkin low i almost bottom out on speedbumps. I really just want clearance for some bigger tires - only 29s or so - and the look. hopefully it'll make it easier to get in and out of the beautiful sierra nevada campgrounds too. I'm having more trouble with the front...if anyone has any suggestions ;-)

i know there's tons of posts on this already...but i still haven't found anything "cheap".
