charge & brake light, on.

I previously had these lights on, changed out my alternator using a rebuilt alt from autozone. Everything was good for about 2 months and now the lights are back on.

I did a search and found several replies saying that rebuilt alts will do this, i had 2 diff autozones test the alt and it passes. My question to you guys is should l just try to reset the ecu? or demand a diff alt? also i checked the ground and wiring and everything looks fine, except for some gunk on the harness that connects to the alt, whats safe to clean wires/connectors.

You may also have a battery going bad. Have it checked. Alternators can cause batteries to go bad, and vice-versa.

my truck was doing the same thing and i bought an $80 alternator from advance auto with a lifetime warranty. lights are twice as bright and now its back to normal. you should have some sort of warranty with yours so i would go exchange for another one and buy a $50 battery at the same time just to be safe. This is real typical. For some reason those Autozone Alts don't hold up. Demand a refund and tell them you don't care if it checks good for them, it doesn't for you. If they give you a hard time ask them if they will be willing to pay a Toyota shop to verify that there alternator is not the problem. If you tell them that I would bet they will just refund your money. They know the light problem. Now if you can live with the lights on you would probably be ok.

If you haven't charged your battery with a battery charger it will cause the alternator to run wide open & burn out quickly. You can't charge a battery with an alternator.

Did you try the GSR repair?
GSR = Good, Sharp, Rap on the back of the alt. with something non-conductive.
How about puting the alt on a meter, just to see what kind of voltage it's making.

Something I found out recently...if you have daytime running lights (standard in Canada) the headlights will not come on automaticlly if your alt. is going bad and those two idiot lights are on.

forgot to mention battery was changed at the same time. Dont have any problems with starting the truck at all. Just more worried that the lights are correct and ill get stranded somewhere.

Ill try to check voltage, and see if maybe i can force autozone to swap it out.
