I know that wasn't asking me but probably a skinny 33in street tire. Also taller tires weigh more. If you wheel your truck but also drive it a lot during the week for work have you considered a second set of tires and rims? A set of street tires on light weight rims and a set of off road tires with cheap steel wheels.

Anything helps Jason! And i'm actually in the process of figuring out exactly what combo I want to do for that. I've been thinking on it for a week or so. Im gonna attempt to upload a pic of the wheels/tires i have now

I know it's small (Never had that problem before LOL!) but thats the best i could do for now. The wheels seem light from when I've had them off the truck but can't find what wheels they are. Got 'em with the truck

The center cap looks like American racing. If they are wide that will hurt your mileage. They look to be aluminum so that should help. Have you already tried the basics like air filter, oil change, other fluids tire pressure and removing excess weight on the truck. Have you corrected your distance traveled because of the larger than stock tires when you calculate your mileage?

Just sayin': My '95 4Runner -22re 5 spd, 2" bodylift, 33x12.5 mud tires and factory 4.10 gears- gets 21-23 mpg doing 65-70, with the RPMs around 2800 IIRC. The best I ever got was 24, and that was even before the engine rebuild!

The calibration and everything on 'em is correct with the bigger tires. Previous owner took care of that for me. And they are American Racing wheels and im PRETTY sure Aluminum. What I'm thinking about doing is keeping these wheels with a set of road tires on them and throwing some All-Terrains on a set of Pro-Comps for 'froadin'.

Air filter, oil, fluids and everything have been run through with a fine tooth come. Just got done with valve cover gaskets, intake manifold upper gasket and TB gasket along with a coolant flush to switch from that green **** to the factory red from Toyota. Also, just changed plugs and wires as well so the truck is in "tip-top" shape.

I wasn't aware that you could recalibrate the speedometer/odometer for larger tires on these toyotas. Have you checked your speed via GPS? Just curious did the previous owner tell you how he adjusted the speedo for the larger tires?

Never got the chance to ask him but I've checked it with 2 different GPS units and a couple iPhones and its spot on.

I'll have to look into that for my truck. Does your truck have the optional 31in tire package? If so your truck should have 4.56 gears and your speedo will be correct with 31's.

I'll have to look into that. I'm not sure. I know the previous owner said that he personally added the 31's with the wheels to the truck and replaced damn near everything on it when he blew the old motor and dropped in the new one, but I planned on calling the dealership with my VIN and finding out a few more specs about it.

I have a almost identical truck to yours. When I was looking at it before i bought it I thought I couldn't luck out and find a truck with factory 4.56 gears. I noticed it had the original spare tire and it was a 31 10.50. I also looked in the door jam and there was a code that showed it had a 4 pinion (V6) 4.56 rear axle. I just googled for toyota gear codes. I'm glad mine has 4.56's for what I plan to use it for.

I'm definitely going to get my research in on it tomorrow while I'm at work. Whats the plan for yours?

Just to have a 4x4 truck to go hunting in and stuff like that. My dd is 2wd so I needed something. The rear end is apart now, I'm waiting for UPS to bring my locker. I am still working the knots out from the 3.4 swap. I've got a build thread in the 3.4 swap section. It's too bad there isn't any place to wheel where I live. Closest place is almost 3 hours one way and its nothing but mud.

The taller tires would effectively change your gearing in taller direction you are looking for.
Changing tires way easier than swapping gears

x2 on this. My 31's with 4.10 gears get about 10% more distance/revolution than the stock size for my truck. According to my odometer and a little math I'm getting about 22mpg in my truck, but factor in the larger rolling circumference of my tires I'm really getting about 24 mpg. 10% increase in mileage is pretty significant and tires/wheels are WAY easier to swap out than rear ends.

i agree on the slower speed. i use torque on my cell phone along with a bluetooth OBD2 adapter. i was driving on the highway the other day and the drop from 75 to just under 70 got me around 3-4 more mpgs
