howdy all, does anyone know why the auto zone repair info says the dist. must be removed to install new pickup coil. surely this is not necessary!! anyone who can answer this before i start this job??

 

because whoever sat behind a desk and typed that into AutoZone's computer data bank has obviously never replaced the pickup coil on a Toyota Pickup

but, it would make it EASIER to replace it with the dizzy off the motor... but totally not necessary


remove the cap, remove the rotor, grab a phillips head screw driver, remove the two screws, and bam, it's out


but there IS a gap setting the new one has to be at when installing it

 

thanks, i really didn't want to remove the thing...scared of getting it back in right, making trouble where no trouble.

 

I would probably throw a timing light on it after install anyway, just to make sure it's perfect.

 

You do not need to remove the distributor to replace the pick up coil, remove the two phillips screws and remove it and replace it with the new one and set the gap at 8-10 thousanths of an inch and youre done. It shouldn`t take more than 15 minutes to do it.
