CEL and Starting Problems

After putting my 22re back in i cant get it started and i have a cel of TPS, it worked alright before i rebuilt my engine, it shouldnt have gone bad any ideas on how to get it working right, and when im turning over the engine it back fires out of the intake and blows the intake tube off and i saw a flame shoot out one time, any ideas about that one.

Besides thinking that the MAF is not plugged in...
That sounds scary and cool at the same time...
Flames off a backfire...
I remember when I went to clean my MAF I forgot to plug it back in and When I turned the engine over it would start then die...
But that was my 3.4....
I am unfmailliar with the 22re...

Just putting in my .02, check and make sure it's connected alright...

Sounds like the distributor is 180' out. You set it for TDC, but the wrong TDC, I think its on an exhaust stroke, not a compression. Easiest way to rest it now would be to remove the dist cap, see the rotor, slide the distributor out and back in with the rotor pointing in the opposite direction, ie 180' opposite.
