Catalytic conv

it's all good.
but apparently, my cynicism was lost....
...let's take the HC out of the exhaust because it makes acid rain, and convert it to CO2 because it causes global warming.
and if you look at the statistics, an early 1970's era V8 engine without a converter produces about the same level CO2 emissions as a 2000 era 4 cylinder engine, considering the common measurement of grams per mile.
So can you really say that old cars contribute more to global warming than newer cars? My '91 toyota pickup emits as much carbon dioxide per mile as my '72 firebird does (which does not have a catalytic converter, by the way), in spite of the approximate 10 miles per gallon difference.
I know that because of the print out that comes with the smog test.
What is different is the NOx emissions, of which my firebird emits more of... and which studies show NOx helps plants grow....
So by reducing NOx, we are hurting plant growth and thus impeding CO2 sequestration.
umm... wha?

The way I understand it, the Cat takes poisonous gases and turn them into non-poisonous gases.
As for global warming.
If not for global warming the ice sheet would be about 200' thick 20 miles north of my house. The last time there was one anyway. There have been many ice-ages and many periods of time warmer than today. Or so they say on the science channel. The average yearly temp. for the earth at this time is 52. Last cycle it got up to 54. They say that is a huge difference. Anyway..........just a little trivia.

removing the CAT will not harm the engine in any way. i dont run CATS on my 2011 Mustang or my old 2001 supercharged Mustang. both will still pass an inspection and run perfectly. the upstream O2 sensor is the one that makes the changes in the fuel trims and the ONLY purpose of the rear O2 is to make sure the converter is working correctly.
cut it off and put a pipe in its place. less restriction=more power!!!!

I gutted the cat on my 94.... It has upstream and downstream O2's, Now... with this set up... the cel will come on to let u know the cat isnt working, which WILL cause the engine to run rich and, and smell, and put lots of unburnt fuel and noxious gases into the atmosphere....
However.... I went ahead and took the ecu outta a 93, auto, that only had the 1 o2 before the cat, put it in my 94 5 spd that has the 2 o2's, and voila... no more cel, no stinky cloud from the tailpipe, and mpg's are back to normal!
Did I gain any power from this??? well... I guess u could say I re-gained some of the power I had lost from the cat being no good, but very highly doubt I gained anything over stock power. But... the truck smelled like rotten eggs before I did this, and was getting about 16 mpg.... w just the gutted cat and cel light on... I was gettin about 14-15mpg, and the rig stunk like unburnt fuel, and left a pooof of black smoke every time I left a stop light.... Now, with my set up, I have no cel, my mpg's are back up to normal (21-24), and she dont stink so bad...I cant imagine I'm polluting anymore like this, than I was before gutting the cat, and getting worse mpg's, and the rotten egg(sulfur) smell.
And it sounds GREAT
