Cat Back kit or custom?

So I just placed my order for a new set of thorley headers, but I still need to make a decision on the rest of the exhaust....

For simplicity sake I would probably perfer to go with a premade kit with piping all ready for plug n play. But, I haven't had too much luck finding any for sale .... I did find 1 for about 400 dollars with a magnaflow muffler and 2 1/4" SS pipe (seems a little expensive )

Other option I was thinking about was just to buy the muffler separately and have a local exhaust shop build it up...

I suppose either way I will have to buy the hi flow cat separately and put in at a shop.

Does anybody have an opinion on a quality setup or where to buy it? (hi flow cat, and muff or cat back). Or piping size?

Custom. Buy a muffler of your choice, and take it in to a muffler shop.

Of all the 'cat back' exhaust kits that came into the exhaust shop I used to work at, none of them were 'plug and play'. Why over pay for a kit you're just going to have to modify later? A good exhaust shop will build a system that flows well, and fits your rig like a glove. You'll probably spend less, too.

Ok, I was leaning towards doing a costume anyway, but how about any hi flow cat or muff suggestions?

My I want a nice sound that's not too loud.... I don't want to attract unwanted attention

And 2.25 or 2.5 inch pipes? The headers are 2.5 but I've read 2.25 keeps better back pressure

Man I bought a pacesetter cat back system and that thing was a total POS. Didn't fit for ˟˟˟˟. Plus it didn't sound good. Took it off and sent it back. Took the truck to a custom muffler shop and they did a nice custom 2.25 system with a flow master 40 series for 200 flat. It sounds perfect. I am just mad I didn't go to the muffler shop in the first place. Would have saved me hours and aggravation. I honestly assumed it would have cost more. That's my .02

For the converter, Magnaflow has a CARB approved unit. That alone should be enough to merit serious consideration. And since CARB regulations require it to be warranted for 5 years / 50k miles, just more food for thought.

Flowmaster or Magnaflow would be my only consideration for mufflers, and 2.25-2.5" tubing would be fine. I have 2.25 on my 22re and a magnaflow muff the shop had on the shelf (the person who ordered it backed out). Got the muffler and piping installed for 195. The magnaflow converter was installed due to my old one blown out and cost me 210 installed, but that was for 22re so the 3vze may be different cost.
