Car won't start - 12v from coil?

I tested the poitive hook up on the coil and it has power. But I used the same tester on the wire going to the distriber and it isn't lighting up.

Would the power coming from the coil (to the distirutor) light the 12v tester? Or is my coil bad?

Help!

Thanks!

update: looks like power is getting to the distributor even though it doesn't light the tester..... It was throwing sparks and shocked my hand i was holding it in.....

Could a magnet mess up the HFM? What are the sypmtoms of the timing being off?

same problem, also stumped

I have a similar problem with my 3vze after a head gasket replacement. I have taken everything apart, checked all wiring and nothing seems to be wrong. The only thing I noticed is that my check engine light does not come on. I back wired a test light to the W ping(check engine light circuit) and it lights, I checked the bulb, instrument panel and harness and all checks good. I cannot even get a trouble code by doing the diagnostic test. Please let me know if you find something on yours.
Thanks,
