can't find the right distributor cap??
So story goes I bought an 85 4runner a few months ago Factory fuel injection but converted to carb,
Now I know this is 86-95 truck/runner section but I don't know what year the motor or distributor may have come out of so I posted here,
It seems all the 22r-re and ret motors from 81-90 use part number c589p, which is too big for my distributor later model 22re's have a part number c760 which is also to big
I've tried 20r motors clica 22r/20r motors they all use the same part numbers....and also researched the number under my cap with 0 hits on anything so I'm at a loss of what distributor I have
It has an electronic pickup that comes out of the back and doesn't have a holder like most of the pictures I've seen, and it also only has a single diaphragm advance

I still have it lol I just snapped a pic so you guys would have something to reference, it's definitely a 22r, I've owned 3 of them, has 22r on the valve cover and block, and it has the lazre embossing,

I did not mean the engine just the Distributor .
I guess your picture went missing.
The diameter of the caps bearing area .
Be nice to know just what year your dealing with.
That is why I say one never knows what you might find in there vehicles.
Why not swap to a Distributor you know what it came out of.
Must be your first time trying to find a cap.
Is it possible the cap you bought was boxed wrong??

If the distributor has a part number somewhere on the casting you could try looking that up. Manufacturers tend to mark their parts with numbers. It could be a raised part of the casting or it could be stamped. It could be on the upper part or on part of it that gets inserted into the engine.
If you still have the cap you could always take the cap down to the auto parts place you frequent the most and have them bring out a few Toyota prospects. Since nobody here seems to know what that is I'd have a look at stuff that isn't 22r as well.

Yup its the first time trying to find a cap for this one, I brought the cap to advance when I returned the first one and we spent 30 minutes looking through part numbers of every vehicle with a 22r in it even looked up 20r trucks and celicas and the 18rc and got nowhere.
looked up the raised part number underneath the cap and didn't get any results

So we know its a 22r. Pull the valve cover and set the engine to TDC firing #1, and mark it for timing. Go to a junkyard and see if you find a 22r to pull from. Or pull the distributor go to the parts store and get a 22r distributor for that year of truck and match that up.
I have a 1987 22R distributor that came from a working engine. If you need it.

I may be way of base here but do ya suppose it could be from a forklift engine?
If I already went through a bunch of hunting and couldn't find it I'd be really tempted to get a different distributor. I want my parts easy to locate and purchase in case I get into an urgent situation.

Yeah I'm probably going to have to grab a new/used one, I'd still really like to know what this one is tho lol..
I'm out of town now but when I get home I'll pull it and see if I can find a part number on the distributor itself
Thanks for all the help, when I figure it out or even if I can't I'll take pictures of it and the new one side by side and post it here

So for anybody looking for this info, turns out it's specifically a 1978 20r distributor out of a Corolla... Apparently THAT specific year they switched from points to electronic ignition and THAT year is the only year with a different electronic ignition distributor from any other 20r/22r.... It figures my runner would have something like That
