i just got my 22re running. I cant seem to find where this plug from under the EFI goes. I also cant find the o2 sensor plug. I have the plug on the header but theres no wire harness or anything near the drivers fender where my diagram shows it shoud be connecting to. Now that i think of it, i dont remember the o2 sensor being plugged in before.....

For the 02 sensor, your connection should be back near the end of the head pipe. It should be a 4 wire (preheat) sensor as well. Did you change manifolds? You shouldn't have a sensor in the manifold.

thats the thing, i bought this 4runner from an old guy who was the original owner. he said he hadnt done anything to the engine. when i did the head, i found out that the block was an 84 because it doesnt have the "laser block" casting on the side of the engine. the head was also the ones with the round exhaust ports, and yet, its an EFI. i called my buddy at Toyota, he told me that my 1990 4runner was a crossover year and i could possibly have a "frankenstein" motor from the factory. the engine runs fine without any of those plugs plugged in, but i just wanna be sure that i wont run into problems later.

ok....i just went out to look under my truck and i found the o2 sensor wire where it supposed to be. Thanks DeathCougar. now i just gotta figure out the other wire and the rest of my vacuum lnes. I guess the old man changed the header. my thing with buying used cars is that you will never know the complete history of it, even if a nice old man sells it to you. LOL!

22RE engines have plugs that don't do anything, depending on the trucks options. And some of the plugs are merely used for testing.

On my old truck I also had a plug like you have pictured and it never went to anything, Never harmed anything either..

The grey plug laying on top of the vacuum hose in the first two pics is for the EGR temp sensor. And considering the EGR valve is gone, that plug goes nowhere now. So much for believing the previous owner who 'never did anything to the engine'? ...or you removed the EGR valve...

As for 90 being a 'frankenstein' year, yeah that's sort of true, but your dealer contact is an idiot: the engine block / head were the same from 85-95 (though the electronics changed over the years). To find a pre-85 block in a 90 frame says enough on its own- the engine has been changed (yet another reason to not believe the PO).
The real 'frankenstein' issue with the 90+ 4Runners is that they look deceivingly similar to the same year trucks but there were many subtle changes to the body and panels that made such parts difficult at best to swap between the two.

sorry, i forgot to mention that i did the egr delete. the grey plug is an extra plug because i put a resistor in the egr plug and its off to the side out of view. I kinda figured that a 90 wouldnt have an 84 block in it. now i know where to go for real answers..you guys are very helpful. i really appreciate the help. Thanks!
