x2, I would like to know if the oil really did help out the locker onroad performance. I was going to order some amsoil locker additive. Its supposed to work with auto-lockers to reduce the banging and noises it makes.

 

I think the thicker oil helps to slow the internal parts quicker. Or maybe it creates a better "cushion" between the parts? I don't know but it just seems to work smoother than before.

 

hmm, IIRC the lockright owners manual calls for 75w-140 for warmer areas. I might try swapping my current oil out for some thicker stuff this summer, I hate to think of 45 dollars worth of synthetic oil in my diff going to waste!

I changed diff oil to Lucas diff oil I think those are semi synthetic. 90W130.

So I can't compare to previous condition, but for sure very quiet.
If I gas it more than usual, rear tires skip at turning. other than that no push under steer nor major hard to handle kind of charactor for me.
Anyway, maybe the better diff oil....

I was just worry about maybe my installation was not right when seeing other user's feed back here.

Anyway I am enjoying the traction Lockright and swamper TSLs at mud.
I have to say more confidence with these combination now.

Anyone out there switch from regular 80w-90 to a thicker oil with an auto locker and experiance all around quieter/better performance?

Mine really isnt that bad at all, I can only hear the clicking if I have my window open and music low... also when the noise can bounce off something like when im in my neighbor hood.

 

I'm going to put Redline Heavy Shockproof oil in:

"A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities.

Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90."

Or maybe I will use something like 75W140 or higher viscosity.

 

NAPA had the 75w140 Royal Purple so thats what I went with. By smoother I mean that the locker seems to lock and unlock in a less obvious way. Before I could totally tell when it unlocked in a turn or locked midway through a turn if I gave it more gas. Does it still behave like a locker? Yes - but I wonder if someone who had never driven my truck before would be able to figure out that there was a locker.

Hmm, mine is very smooth in that aspect. I think I will stick with the Amsoil 75w-90 and throw that sliplock additive in.

 

I can attest to this...it's rare that you can hear it clicking in Jay's truck. Or maybe you just can't hear it over the exhaust??

 

 

I want one for my 2wd 3.0 runner. Figure it's the closest to 4wd I'm gonna get. Any word if Aussie has one for the V6 rear yet?

 

As far as I know they are still 'in production'.

I'm not sure why they have been telling people it is almost ready for that last 5 years. Bad form I think.
