Calling all lockrite guys
I took in my rear 4.88 third to get new bearings and such, I have the option of throwing in a lockrite for just the cost of the locker.
what do guys think?
I spend alot of time on road.
I have to decide in a day or so.

i had one in my 4runner up until last friday. i had no problems with it behind a 22re. i pounded the crap out of it. but i rarely drove it on the road so i can't tell you how it will be in a DD. i know i danced it around turns a few times until i figured out how to turn with a locker

i tried putting a Detroit EZ locekr in mine at one pint (never buy these) and after reinstalling 5 times due to different suggestions/parts, we said to hell with it andi took it back and bought a real Detroit locker. That is the best $511 i ahve ever spent.
i was destined to not have a lunchbox in the rear. I say go for it, but im reccomending a full detroit or something very similar.

hmm, any others? I will only go with the lockrite for now, I am short on funds ( part time work) so if I dont get the lockrite, im not gonna get a locker.
p.s the guy setting this up is a profesional, he is highly recommended by the local 4x4 scene

As long as he has dealt with Toyota 3rds before and knows what he is doing. hell ya go for it man. Your going to kick yourself around if you dont get this locker. you WONT be dissapointed.

An auto-locker in your DD will add to the general driving fatigue you experience when you drive. It can be finicky and eventually you will long for the days of driving to work with an open diff, when you can actually coast around turns without pressing the clutch.
But offroad, it's awesome.

I am running a pair of Lock Right 1620's in my truck with V6 thirds front and rear. I would have tried the Aussie but they don't make them for V6 thirds. I have had a rear lockright for about 6 years and the only problem that I had was when the rear one stopped working for some reason. I rebuilt it with new pins and springs and it was good to go again. I recommend them.

i hade a lockright in the rear of my 87 22r DD for about 6 months, lots of both offroad and road driving, worked good but i eventually wore out the hole where the centerpin goes threw it.....makes it feel like a worn out u-joint, have since retired it to the front axle......

i have a lockrite in my truck, which before i left for college was my dd. offroad its awseome and honestly onroad its not that big of a deal, just push in the clutch going around sharp corners. the only time it bothers me is pulling around a corner from a dead stop. but bang for buck getting a lunchbox locker is a good way to go if you dont have the extra $$ to spend for a detroit or arb.
since you are already regearing i would go for it, otherwise if you want one later it will cost you some more $$ for labor.

Another vote for. I'm very happy with mine, but I'll admit that I have'nt had mine long nor do I deal with snow. As far as daily driving I just don't see it as that big a deal, especially if this is a Lockright vs open question. If $$$ was no issue I'd say ARB all the way, but that doesn't appear to be your situation. Also think of it this way... A friend e mailed me a pic of myself on a trail when I was still open with obviously spinning tires. The caption read "Mike tries to determine how much tire tread equates the value of a locker" Smarta$$. But his point was well taken.

Well, I am defantly leaning towards the locker. I will contact him tomorrow to let him know what I want. But if anyone else wants to chime in that would be swell.
Guy is charging me 150 bucks plus parts for the rebuild. He has done a TON of toyota gears, so I trust his work.
he had said it would probibly cost around 300 bucks for the lockrite. Sound right?

No. Try this. Don't know if being in Canada makes a difference though.
