California motor

Just replaced my motor with a used one a few months ago. My check engine light is on, no suprise, with a "71" fault code. It looks like this is a California emission fault. Anybody have any idea how I can get rid of it? I am not in California.

Did it come on right after you swapped the engine, or did it take some time?

I'll elaborate on the reason I ask when the light came on.

I had a 71 when I bought my truck. PO blew a head gasket and had a Ford dealer in Germany fix it. I replaced the EGR modulator, replaced gaskets, scratched my head, hooted like a monkey, nothing helped. All the while my EGR valve was working fine. I could unplug it thile idling, suck on the hose on topof the valve and the engine would stall. Finally I found that 2 of the vacuum hoses on a thermal valve in the intake above the right exhaust manifold were swapped, so neither the EGR or the fuel pressure regulator were getting vacuum, ever. Unplugged, uncrossed, replugged, poof...fixed. Gas mileage went up a litte too because now my FPR works. I asked PO when the light came on and he told me it was on when he picked it up at the dealer. They must have plugged it in wrong when they installed the intake. So, someone could have plugged yours in wrong too when you had your engine swapped.
