Ok guys, I need some serious help with this. My rocker panels and cab corners on both sides of my reg cab are bad and need replaced. Does anyone have any pictures or links to a thread that has some steps, ideas, or advice. I tried searching around and really didnt find many pictures or the repairs. And I was going to purchase the repair panels from www.alfaparts.net So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

 

Ok so Maybe pictures will help. You can see where the corners and rockers are pretty much gone. Let me know what you guys think. I need all the help that I can get.

I did do a search for cab corner repairs and rocker panel repair and I didnt find anything that gave any good information. I just figured that someone might have posted some repairs thats all. Thanks for looking.

So do you think that I would be better off making my own repair panels. I can fabricate and weld pretty well. I was just wondering if that stuff was any good. Do you think that I would be better off doing that?? Thanks

dont let me deture you from this purchace .. I have been waiting years to see an actual installation of this companies parts .. everybody recommends them , I know they sell a ton of this stuff , but yet , I have not once seen an installation .

and I have it from a good source .. " most guys just buy the stuff , and once they see it , they just throw it in a corner "

I think that I am going to make my own patch panels. I have a local place that I can get sheet metal at a great price. I will let you know what I do.
By the way. Alfaparts.net wants 220$$ for two cab corners and rocker panels.

 

no...you wont be able to make them as good as the factory...

best bet is to find a scrap truck and cut out some rocker sections...cut out your old rockers and weld the new ones in...good luck!

 

You ever hear the expression "you can't polish a turd"?, let me explain...

If the cab is that rusty, I would be willing to bet the rest of the truck is pretty close to the same. I had a buddy who spent quite a bit of money on his truck a few years back repairing rusty panels and repainting the whole truck only to have it fall apart a short time later (within 2 years). I felt bad for him because he put a ton of effort into this truck and the return only lasted a short while. Rust repair is a never ending deal.

I would be willing to bet that after money spent on a major rust repair project, you could find a cab or truck for less than the repair. There are solid trucks all around (even in Wisconsin) you just have to be patient and be willing to road trip if need be.

 

I am keeping my eyes open for a donor truck for a cab. However the floor boards and the whole base of the cab is solid as well as the frame and all neccessary components. And even though it looks like a terd now, I didnt pay anything for the truck. As far as the money goes, im not going to have more than 200 dollars in rust repair if I do it myself. I have exp. with fabricating metal. I appreciate the advice

Well I have decided to get the alfaparts and if they do not work I will use them for a template. What do you guys think is better por15 or the eastwood 2 part converter. I have used the eastwood but never the por 15. Thanks.

 

So how did the cab repairs come out ? and tell me about it, my truck hit a tree and crushed the cab on the pass side and cant find any repair parts, but got a whole side panel from a 4runner gona try that, but im not to good at fabricating
