Everytime I turn on my A/C, it squeals for a brief second, but it works well. It is intermittent and only squeals when I initially turn on the A/C. Is there a preventative maintenance I need to do? Do I need to lubricate something? I am planning on doing a belt change soon.

Mine does it too.

I am thinking it's the clutch on the front of the compressor, because I checked the belt and it's tight

 

So, what if it is the clutch, is that something that can be fixed without major expense?

 

replace the belt... maybe wipe off all of the pullies while the belts are off too.

 

Tighten the belt??? Or maybe it has too much refrigerant in it, so it's having a harder time compressing it, Maybe/??????

 

No on both counts.. Id be willing to bet its the clutch or pully... Im not sure on 4runners if you can just change the clutch or u need a whole new compressor.. perhaps sumone else who knows there A/C can pipe up.

 

a glazed belt (one that squealed before) will still slip, no matter how tight it is.

First, put a new belt on and tighten it up to spec. THEN check other stuff.
