Buying a header but confused...
Ok i have decided to buy a header. I am buying one from summit racing becuase i have alot of cupons from previous purchases.
My first actual question is whether or not to bite the bullet and go fro a ceramic coated versus a normal painted one? I have heard few bad things from searching about painted and that they still last fairly good.
option 1: Pacesetter $170 painted, 270 ceramic

#2 Pacesetter $170 painted, 270 ceramic

Ok whats the difference in #1 and #2 which is better? one of them has more straighter bends? What does this do
option 3: thorley $180 nickel chrome, 305 ceramic

search! but i haven't really heard anything good about pacesetter headers...thorley aren't supposed to be bad though. also you should look into using a cat, other members on here have said the O2 sensor gets funny when there is no cat, and there is not a noticable gain in hp or torque, just the emissions of 20+ vehicles with cat's

Trust me i have searched. Now i am having second thoughts about spluging and buying a lc. Ya i have reconsidered after searchign more and will put in a cat. Anyone have a link to a high flow 2.25 cat fro under 100 bucks? I also notice on soem headers the o2 sensor ports are a little different on the pacesetter it is liek a little tube coming off the header while the lc is pretty much flush on the surface.

ok well i think im gonan get a thorley. But im still confused...The ones that the sell (summit) have the o2 bung on one of the primary tubes. This is only taking readings from one cylinder and not the average so thsi is not the best. This is the only one they offer in ceramic coated. The other option is to get the same header that is nickle chromed instead with no o2 bung and put an o2 bung in right after the header flange in my exhuast pipe. Which is the better way. Its either ceramic with o2 bung on primary or chromed and i put the o2 bung taking an average of all cylynders behiad the header flange.

its deosnt matter bought the postion i am wondering how much off a difference it makes when the o2 sensor is takign readings only off of one cylinder versus all of them averaged?

not sure which thorley you're looking at, but the one for my 95 has the o2 sensor mount in the down pipe...

I bookmarked that for a future order. I plan on wrapping it though to better cool down the under hood temps. No need for ceramic if you plan on header wrap.

And by the way, don't worry about a cat. It's absurd to think that changes downstream could affect the o2 sensor like that...
You're talking about changes downsteam in a pressurized pipe... It's just not going to matter.

The lack of a cat wont mess with your o2 sensor. But it is a WHOLE lot worse not having one. First, depending on where you live it can be a 25K fine, not worth it, espically since there isnt a hp/tq gain on the 22re. I actually think my bottom end is better with it. Spend the 50 bucks and get a magnaflow/carsound universal from summit then have it welded in.. Not only are you legal your exhaust wont stink, and a 22RE with no cat smells HORRIBLE...
as far as the o2 sensor location.. they probally have a stock photo on there which shows the sensor in the primary, even if its there put a cap on it and keep it in the stock location, its much more accurate... IMO get a LC header... thorleys are the same mold as the TRD, but dont get a pacsetter I havent heard of anyone with that header not having issues....

ok i think i decided on thorley btu now i need to know ceramic or chrome. The chrome price is more apeallign to me but i still can afford the ceramic. Soemoen wanna help me out and mabey point out the right one for my truck. I just want to make sure i get one where the o2 bung is on the cllector and not the priamry.

get ceramic... its much better than chrome. It will keep your underhood temps much lower... if you order one for your rig the bung should be on the collecter... even if it has one on the primary put a block off plate on and keep in on the collecter... an exhaust shop can cut your OEM one out and weld it to the new exhaust...

ya thats what i was thinking i am doign all the exhuast myself no big deal i was thinkign about doign thta but just buyign the bung off of summit but i have no idea which bung i would need.

take a look at this thread.
I think your looking at the wrong header on summit.. there are 3 ceramic coated headers, two of them have the bung on the primary, its for the older rigs... you never mentioned what year your truck is... but if its a 88 or newer (89 or newer 2wd) the bung is on the collecter... make sure you know what your ordering... if your rig is a 88 or newer 4wd this is the one you want... setup the way it should be....

summit is pretty good, enter all of your vehicle info and you should get the propper setup... summit also sells the hi-flow cat you were asking about. magnaflow/carsound is the best IMO

well sometime in 87-88 toyota went from an o2 sensor on the manifold to an o2 sensor on the collecter... give LC a call monday and talk to them... you can get an o2 sensor extension kit from them that will allow you to move your OEM o2 sensor to the collecter.... alsso have you popped the hood to see where your o2 sensor is? if its on the manifold I would get a newer header and move the o2 sensor, if its on the collecter get the newer header and be done... either way I dont beleive the head is different so it will bolt right up... but give LC a call, or PM kyle22r, he seems to know his engines...but you are correct a o2 sensor on the collecter is the way to go... LC doesnt make a header with it on the primary, they just include the reloaction kit..
