To buy a used clutch or not???

So, I have found this used clutch on a local listing for $75. It is supposedly a LUK clutch. And supposed to only have about 8k miles on it. Is there a way to measure the friction plate with a set of calipers to know how worn out this thing is? Is it even worth looking at? Doesn't come with the Pilot bearing or the throw out bearing. What are your thoughts?

Don't do it.

You can get a new Aisin clutch with or without HD springs from MarlinCrawler for a little more. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

i would ask for pictues, if it is in new condition why not a clutch will last alot longer than 8k. i would check it out first and make a decision then. maybe go to napa or autozone and measure the disc thickness then compare

Buying a used clutch is worse than buying used underwear.

Do I just order the one they have listed for the hilux? That's the same, right?

I guess if i can get it for that cheap. Priced out Throw-out and Pilot bearing and they'll cost me around $40 plus shipping.

If you really enjoy pulling your transmission, and have nothing better to do.

Then do it!

$75 for a used clutch disc with no bearings doesn't sound like such a great deal to me, I agree with most everyone else don't buy it.

I say never. I have gotten to the point that I can remove and replace the tranny in about 2 hours by my lonesome but I have a removable center floorpan due to dual cases with twin sticks, but it still sucks everytime.

I do love the underwear comparison, but can someone provide a specific cheap clutch part or kit to buy? I checked out MarlinCrawler's site. There are a lot of options. I need a cheap replacement kit for a 90 4runner.

Have you tried any of the online parts retailer links in the sticky? Many of those sites sell clutch kits, prices start around roughly $80, assuming you have a 22RE under the hood.

Considering how important a clutch is, is it really something you want to cheap out on that badly? Rockauto.com starts at $85 for the cheapo Rhinopak kit that comes with parts of unknown quality whereas they sell the Aisin kit (OEM) for $130. Is saving $50 really worth getting mystery parts? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...&parttype=1993 (wait for page to load and it will take you to the clutches)
