Bushwacker flare install question
Hi, started install on some Bushwacker fender flares on my 1988 4 runner. Everything lined up and fit good. Started with the passenger side front. After drilling in the provided sheet metal screws I was dissastisfied as they never really tightened up. They're all in there and the flare seems tight to the fender but I don't like the fact that the screws still turn and won't lock down. They are 1/2" long screws so I'm thinking of going down to the hardware store tommorrow and getting some 3/4" screws, just looking for some ideas. For as much as I paid for these damn things you'd think they'd come with a little better instructions not to mention the cheesy photocopy photographs that are so dark they might as well left them out. Thanks for any help or ideas.:pat:

I didnt pre-drill holes in most cases, the rears worked with the factory holes just fine and the fronts I just drove teh screws in instead of predrilling. I lieft the front chrome trim on that seemed to work best.

Just drilled the provided black sheet metal screws (not plastic), flat washer and plastic base to hold the snap cap through the flares and into the fender. The flares fit great and look great both front and rear, just cheap hardware IMO. I'll see what I can do tommorow, I'm sorta pissed 'cause I heard such good things about these flares, high quality and all.

The only screws that keep turning when i installed mine where the ones i overtightened. Very easy to do especially if you used any kind of power tool to install the screws.
A larger sheet metal screw worked for me. Make sure you buy a screw that won't rust.

I've got some too (next project) I'm thinking I want plastic push in fasteners got a pack at Auto-Zone, my thinking is I want the fasteners to be the weakest point so that if I get them in a bind on the trail the fasteners will be the one to give verses the flares or the trk body?
