Burning rubber smell from exhaust hangers

When I got my truck there were no rubber donuts on the bracket after the cat, so I put some black rubber hangers on there I got from NAPA. They were the OEM style that just slide on.

Problem is, now I get a bad burning rubber smell from them every time I drive. Are those supposed to be some special high temp hangers or is my exhaust just getting too hot?

My motor runs fine (tuned up and new injectors) and I checked the cat for clogs and the muffler and pipes are new, so I don't think a misfire is causing anything to get hotter than it should, but maybe I'm missing something.

It's an 89' 3VZE 4runner, automatic.

You will get used to it after a awhile.

Maybe that is why there were none on there.

I still smell mine when I get to work in the morning. 5 mile ride.

We all tend to think now What??

Once they get cooked they get brittle then break never ending cycle.

If it bothers you that bad switch to the universal hangers were the rubber is further away from the exhaust.

Makes something out of some old exhaust hoses used to vent exhaust out of the shop ??

I can`t think it would be real hard to fabricate something and move the rubber further away

McMaster- Carr has some Good for 400 Degrees F I really don`t know how much time and money you might want to get into this project.
