building dual cases

i'm building dual cases for my 87 4runner the case thats in it now is a 4.7 top shift and the donor case is a 2.28 top shift. i'm wondering what needs to be done to the 4.7 thats in it now to be the rear case

nothing at all unless you want to make the rear a twin stick.

However you will have to make sure that you order the adapter plate that works with your rear case.

Unless you have a turbo or v6 application you have a 21 spline output on the transmission. and that would make your current gears 21spline. In other words unless you have 23 spline which we could determine with more information. you need to make sure you order an adapter plate with 21 coupler.

The way I made my dual cases was by ordering the 4.7's and the doubler at the same time so I could go


Transmission 21>reduction box 21>adapter plate output 23>4.7 rear most transfer 23.


Just to add a little more strength but like I said ASSUMING you have a 21 spline transmission and already have 4.7 gear in your truck you will have to go 21 spline all the way down the drive line.


EDIT: in some cases you need to chop of 1/4 inch of the shift rail on the rear most case so things dont bind up.

yes i'm doing 21 spline all the way cause i've alredy been running the 4.7. i'm still confused about the shift rail. put the rear case in 4 hi and cut the rail off a 1/4"

It depends on which tcase year you have as to if you have to cut the shift rail.

according to marlins web page its the type 3 case with the long low range shift rod. so what do yal think needs to be done.thanks for the help

so do i have to tear down the rear case to get the shift rail out. that part isn't in the instructions

You can cut it with that part sticking out but you best damn be sure you cut the right one and the right length.
