I broke a valve cover stud today while adjusting my rocker arms. What is the corect size replacement stud? What is the easiest way to remove the broken stud? The stud broke off about 1" above the head.

Sorry im a little new to the yota thing, been a GM guy all my life but I finally decided I wanted something that would be more reliable for a DD.. lol.

Oh, the truck is a 90 2wd pickup with a 22r.

 

I'm 99% sure they are 8mm-1.25, but the way I would tell is take one out, and take it to the hdwe store with me. Actually, I would take them all out, lift off the valve cover, and remove the broken one CAREFULLY with a pair of vise grips. Using an "easy out" when you have reasonable access would be madness.

considering the nut tightens down on a rubber washer that only has to show 'some' sign of compression / deformation... I am at a loss to describe how one of those studs gets broken.

 

He could've possibly did what I had done, used Air impact wrench, except I broke a stud while replacing ball joints. TIP: DO NOT USE IMPACT WRENCH FOR TIGHTENING!

 

no, no one can be dumb enough to use an impact to tighten down an aluminum valve cover.

I do like my chassie to have tight parts....
But anyways maybe he fixed problem he never responded...
