Hey guys I had my e-brake cable snap right in front of the lever before it plits to the back wheels. I searched and found some good info on replacing it but I was wondering how long it takes to replace it is this something I should set aside like 3 hours for if I've never messed with it before or is it a pretty straighforward fix that might take an hour to an hour and a half on the long end?

i have a missing e-brake cable on my 88 4unner and was wondering the same thing.

 

Yeah this is on my 94........I found a decent write-up by Bmiller and I am wanting to tackle it tonight after work but if its something that will take awhile if you've never messed with it then I'll wait till I have more time. I have alil machanical ability but some of the process looks confusing to me.

I can't imagine it takes that long. On my pickup, the front part of that cable is in front of the gas tank with a c-clip (and the adjuster nuts). The rear hooks up to the brakes with 2 little pins. I'd say the bulk of your time might be fishing the new one back through beside the tank.

I'd set aside an hour tops. 3 hours? Maybe if you're working in the dark with just a butter knife.

 

An hour should do it. Make sure your tranny and exhaust are cool when you start this. I'm not sure what the cable routing is like on your truck, but on my '93 4Runner, I think it was routed over the front of the transmission (requiring me to "hug" the transmission to get the old cable out and new cable in). The exhaust also went right by there on my '93, so my arm would definitely have gotten burned if I did it while it was hot.

 

Sorry, I just re-read the OP. I thought it was the rear cable, not the front one. Still about an hour should do it. And ya, cool components would help from making you yell "OUCH!".
