Broken antenna

Broken antenna
My FM/AM radio antenna is broken. I still get a signal but the antenna itself is very loose, and the sound is full of static. Has anyone done a replacement of this and would like to share advice? Do you have to remove the fender, or just go up through the wheel well? Any help is appreciated!

x2 on this question.
Mine had been bent back for a long time and finally broke off.
How do you get to the thing, and are any bolt-on flexible replacement antennas available that fit the stock hole? I have an 86 pickup.

Remove the plastic liner inside the wheel well. The bolts that hold the antenna in place are then accessible. This is for a power antenna. The top of the fender part of the antenna also has a special nut to remove to allow the antenna shaft to drop down into the area where you removed the plastic liner. Hardest part is re-routing the cable back into the cab.
