Ok I have an 86 Toyota pickup 22r 4wd. Brakes worked fine up until the brake lines broke by the gas tank which I believe is a common problem with these trucks. I replaced the brake lines. Bled the brakes. They went straight to the floor. Then I found out about the proportioning valve in the rear that helped a little after I bled that. Then I had a leaky wheel cylinder replaced both of those. Still didn't fix the problem. I then replaced the master cylinder. Bench bled it. Bled the lines again and it still takes 3 pumps to get a solid pedal and for it to stop. I've been through what seems like gallons of brake fluid bleeding and bleeding the brakes. I've also used a vaccum bleeder which didn't help at all. It still takes 3 pumps to stop. Any help would very appreciative. I'm trying to do everything I can do on my own before I take it to the shop. Thanks in advanced.

 

Are your rear brake shoes adjusted up properly?, didn't read anything about it in your post.

 

To be honest idk I haven't checked. I will the next day I get a chance though. I really don't know how to do it though I'm not much of a mechanic lol

 

If you replaced the wheel cylinders, adjusting the shoes should have been apart it that job.

 

There is air getting in the system somewhere....you need to check all fittings well.

Stop tossing parts at it. Thats no way to diagnose.

Go over every fitting, line, caliper, wheel cylinder...twice....find the leak.

Make sure you bleed in the proper sequence....which order did you bleed them.

 

I haven't seen anywhere it could be leaking but I will definetly recheck everything. RR LR RF LF lspv

 

If you messed with the rear breakes and didn't adjust them.. it could be the issue. When you pull your parking break, does it engage as is normal? Or does it go all the way to the end without really tightning up? If it is not normal, then you need to adjust you rrear breaks.

Take caution! I thought I was smart enough and did it relatively quickly.. then had to get my bouncing rear end off the freeway and readjust them on the street (made it too tight)

Follow FSM and search for how others do it on here.. all the info you need you will find posted already!

 

I agree misadjusted rear brakes will give you exactly those symptoms. Been there done that.
