Brake handle assembly replacement

After 28 years of use, the handle on the emergency brake ripped off the rod, I purchased a new assembly from the dealership and after taking the majority of the existing one off of the truck, I noticed a black stud from the assembly through the firewall. I searched and couldn't find how to completely take out and install a new e-brake assembly with the mounting bracket. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

The interior side of the stud is circled here.

There's bound to be a nut on it on the other side of the firewall.

What's your new part look like??

It's got a nut, but I believe it is welded to the body. The new part just has the stud.

It's this one circled. It's threaded, but as I mentioned, I think the nut is welded to the body.

Well then, I guess you can decide whether to drill, or cut the stud out of the new part and put a bolt back into the welded nut, or to grind the captive nut off the firewall and use the stud and a new nut.

Can't see the new one good because it is so small.

Is the stud pressed into bracket on the new part? If it's not pressed, you might be able to get the old one out with a pair of Engineer pliers/screw pliers.

Millball - Yup, that's what I was afraid of. Has no one else replaced one of these?

Snippits - It's pressed in and hard to get out. I tried a similar method to the Engineer pliers with no success.

For anyone that would like to know, my brake handle assembly was replaced and the PO decided to use some sort of JB weld on stud/nut through the firewall. Other 2nd gen 4runners I've looked at just have a nut in place. Thanks for the help!
