whats up guys? i recently bought a 93 toyota pickup 4x4. and got it on a good deal 600 bucks one owner truck never been offroad. dudes wife divorced him and she got it in the settlement and she let the oil filter leak around it and blew the engine. so then i bought a low mileage engine for 400 bucks. awesome running tight truck with no rust. but heres my thing. the brake booster is bad and i want to do away with it. ive been researching brakes and as long as the master cylinder bore is under 1 inch you can convert it to manual brakes with an adapter. what im wondering is has anyone ever done this or seen it done? or am i gonna be the first? lol

 

Why? And a 93 master might be a 1" master anyway. Depends on which brake system is on it and if the booster is a single or dual diaphragm. If it's a dual, then you have a 1" master. And if it's a v6 truck, for sure the master is a 1" master. Booster from Junk yards aren't all that expensive. And people are parting out trucks on here all the time.

 

thats cool. but i like the idea of having the same brakes whether the truck is running or not

I think removing the booster would render you disc brakes largely ineffective, look up drum and disc brakes and how they operate, as discs need more power (?) to operate with any efficiency.

 

I would NEVER sacrifice braking performance while the truck is in normal motion for better braking with the engine not running. Why would you need better braking performance when engine is not running anyway? Your e-brake not work?

 

actually all the booster does is make the pedal easy. it has no effect on the brakes performance. just whether or not my leg can push the pedal down. its just an expensive fix if i buy new and i have an old chevelle with manual brakes i\and its kinda what im used to. not rally anything more than that. unless i can find a booster pretty cheap. just somethin im curious about

 

Put the booster back in. Its not expensive. Would you remove your seatbelt if it didn't work? Without the booster, your front discs WILL NOT have the braking force to operate properly. Yes, you'll make controlled stops fine, using mostly your rear drums. Panic stop? No. I bet your chevelle has drums all around, too. Drums are self energizing, so non-boosted systems still have some decent stopping power. Look it up.

 

I just replaced my booster from a pickit junk yard for 30 bucks less than 6 months ago. More times and many pairs of pants later then id like to remember. I had to double leg that pedal to get my 4 runner to stop, thought I was going to go through the floor board. Put the booster in it. These brakes need that extra boost. Especialy in that need to stop now moment.

 

i never took the booster out. its just bad. but im gonna take everyones advice. i got a booster given to me yestarday. and im gonna put it on today
